Learn Malaysian History through Street Names in KL

While going around in KL my auntie pointed out street names which were named after our National Heroes , so i decided to write about them. So it's also an interesting way to learn about our History. Some of the names that I've managed to learn about are:

Jalan Cheng Lock is named after Tan Cheng Lock. He was a businessman and also the founder of MCA.
Jalan Loke Yew is named after Loke yew. He was a Famous Businessman and also one of the founding fathers of Victoria Institution.
Jalan P.Ramlee is named after P.Ramlee. He was an awesome film actor, director, singer and songwriter.
Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman is named after Tuanku Abdul Rahman. He was the first Yang di-Pertuan Agung of Malaysia..
Jalan Henry H.S Lee is named after H.S Lee. He was the founder of China Press on 1 February 1946.
Jalan Tun Perak is named after Tun Perak. He was the fifth and most Famous Bendahara in Melaka.
Jalan Tan Siew Sin is named after Tan Siew Sin. He was the President of the MCA.
Jalan Tun Sambanthan is named after Tun Sambanthan. He was the fifth President of Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC).
Jalan Yap Ah Loy is named after Yap Ah Loy. He became the Chinese Kapitan.
Jalan Yap Kwan Seng is named after Yap Kwan Seng. He was the last Chinese Kapitan of Kuala Lumpur from1889 to 1902.
Jalan Dato' Onn is named after Dato' Onn Ja'afar. He was the founder of United Malays National Organization (UMNO).
Jalan Tun Ismail is named after Tun Dr.Ismail bin Dato' Abdul Rahman. He was the second Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia. He was also a second Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Jalan Tun Razak is named after Abdul Razak. He was the second Prime Minister of Malaysia, ruling from 1970 to 1976. He is known as Father of Development. He is also the father of our current Prime Minister Dato' Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak

Memorial P.Ramlee

Do you remember in the 1950's?? Well there was a famous film actor, director, singer and songwriter, he was called P.Ramlee. P.Ramlee was born on the 22nd March 1929 and died on the 27th May 1974 (aged 44). P.Ramlee married a Malaysian film actress and singer called Saloma. Saloma was the third wife of P.Ramlee. Saloma was born on the 22nd January 1935 and she died on the 25th April 1983. She even sang Popular Chinese songs.

All of the films that P.Ramlee made was marvelously wonderful. Some was funny, some was sad, some was scary and some was about heroes. And all of the Popular Chinese songs sang by Saloma has a very beautiful melody.

But then P.Ramlee movies and songs continue to live on in the hearts of thousands of fans, although he is no longer in our midst. In recognition of P.Ramlee's artistic contribution to the Nation, the National Archives of Malaysia decided to establish a memorial in his honour in the very house where he last lived. The memorial was opened to the public on 22nd Mac 1986.

8 Fun Facts about Kuala Lumpur Twin Towers

One of the Twin Towers was build by Japanese and the other by Koreans.
It took 6 years to build Petronas Twin Towers. And for 6 more it held the record of the tallest building in the world until Taipei 101 took over in 2004.
The Towers have 88 floors and are octagonal in cross-section as a tribute to Islamic Tradition.
French “Spiderman” Robert Alain climbed the Twin without any equipment twice. First time in 1997 the authorities knew about his intent and were prepared to stop him. Yet the police noticed him only when he was half way through his climb. They managed to catch up with the “Spiderman” and arrest him only on the 60th floor. In 2007 Alain climbed Petronas again. He stopped on the 60th floor and made a show out of surrendering to the police public applause.
There are 32000 windows in the Towers. It takes 2 months to wash them all.

Petronas Twin Towers are built on the spot of the former race track. A small road behind the building is still Kuda Road. Kuda means “horse” in Malay.

My weekends in Kuala Lumpur

I like shopping everywhere, but I mostly like to shop at KL. In KL there’s lots of shopping center like Mid Valley Megamall, KLCC, the Curve, One Utama, Sunway Pyramid, Bangsar Village and lots more.

I like to shop at Girls and Miss Whatever because most of their clothes are pink which is my favorite color.

Sometimes when I go shopping at KLCC, I will visit the Petroscience. There are so many things that I can learn mostly on science subject. I absolutely love to learn and science is one of my favorite subjects.

And sometimes I go to the world of aquaria. At aquaria there’s so many wonderful sea creatures like sharks, starfish, stingray, turtle and lots more.

Other than shopping, I like to read books. One of my favourite books are Candy Apple books. Candy Apple books are really awesome because there are many problems, gossips and many more teenager things. MPH in Mid Valley is one of the best bookstore compare to others because it’s so big I can find most of my favorite books there.

After a long shopping spree, I will go and have my favorite meal at Chili’s or Secret Recipe. Because the foods are delicious, and at Secret Recipe I love the mushroom soup and the pumpkin soup. I used to be chubby when I was small.

I like watching movies. Some of the movies I like are the Journey to the Center of the Earth because the movie is very adventurous and I like to see what the center of the earth looks like. Hannah Montana movie because one of my favorite artists are Hannah Montana.

In One Utama, there’s a beautiful, peaceful rain forests which has fishes, trees, animals and so many more.

In Sunway Pyramid there’s an ice rink and a theme park called Sunway Lagoon. Sunway Lagoon is really cool it has cool rides like wave pool, Voodoo Adventure River, Waters of Africa and more cool rides!

Shopping in KL is really fun. I won’t go anywhere else in this world if I had the chance because I really love KL. And KL has my favorite shops and places.
